This page is about the travels we have done over the years. If you are looking for visits to the Amazon and the like, you have come to the wrong place. But I hope that it will give you some idea of the travels we have had. I have made up I have made up other pages, and links to photo albums of the trips.

I first got the travel bug when I joined British Rail as a young man. I was allowed five return passes to anywhere in the UK every year, and did a lot of train journeys. When I was about seventeen, I traveled as far north as possible, to Wick near John O'Groats at the top of Scotland. From there I traveled as far south as possible to Lands End in Cornwall. After that I came back to Cardiff. I stayed in cheap B&B's and in the five days I was away, actually spent over 60 hours on trains. A experience, but not one I would recommend.

When we got married due to financial constraints and the fact that foreign travel was not as easy as it is today, we holidayed in the UK. But we would go over most of the UK, and Mary organized trips away for local people and we had some good times in the holiday camps that were so popular then.

When we got a car, that was it. We have traveled most of the UK. Favourite parts are Scotland, ( five times) Yorkshire, (twice) Cornwall, Devon, and of course Wales. My mother comes from Yorkshire, and I love it there. The welcome is genuine, and when the sun is shining few places can beat it.

We went on a coach holiday to Spain in 1992. This included the then just opened Disneyland Paris. A great time, but the journeys are long. Twelve hours to get to Paris, then after we left, another 20 hours to Callela in Spain were we stayed for a week. After that 28 hours straight through home. Never again.

Mary had always said that she did not want to fly, but in 2000 I talked her in to trying it. A week in Majorca, in the Balearic Islands of the coast of Spain. Hugely popular with us Brits, as it is only just over two hours flying time away. I was expecting nerves, but she took it all as if she had been a frequent flyer. We had a great time, but the only downside was the fact that the shops were just not suitable for wheelchairs.

While we were there, we got talking to a couple who had just come back from Toronto. We thought that we would love to go there. After checking the finances, we booked up for the next June for nine days in Toronto. If you have never been, make the effort. What a place. Huge and busy all the time. For some reason I was not expecting such a big place, but it reminded me of pictures of New York. We had hired a car, and did over 1000 miles there. Did not even scratch the surface. We did meet up with Bonnie and her Husband Roy who live there, and who I have been pen pals with for some time. We also went across the USA border to meet up with another old pen pal Harry and his wife Linda. I think that in both these cases, good friendships were made

That brings me up to 2002. As Mary had made the crossing to Canada with no problem we decided to try Florida. We booked for two weeks in Kissimmee Drive Orlando. Obviously we also had a car booked. The car proved to be a bit cramped and after two days we changed it for a bigger one. Now Orlando we loved. We did all the tourist things, went to the parks, and Cape Kennedy. The main Disneyland is great if you have kids, but we did not, and although we enjoyed it, the crowds were incredible, and we were exhausted. Epcot is a different matter. That was our cup of tea. Fascinating. We enjoyed the whole thing. It is huge but not so crowded, and the fireworks at the end have to be seen to be believed.

We also went to Animal Kingdom, which was brilliant, the safari being the best, and the Lion King show, beyond anything I have seen. Sea World was out of this world, with the shows on all the time. We barely had chance to eat! Over to Cape Kennedy. This was one I wanted to see. Mary was not bothered as she has little time for the space race. However this was my day. By the time we left this fascinating place she was hooked and had a great time. What struck me about all the parks, was how lovely they were. You expect the huge rides, but not perhaps the flowers and greenery that abound.

One of the best free shows is at Kissimmee old town on a Saturday night. Over 270 pre 1970 cars gather there for the town run. About eight o'clock the engines start, the music comes from the speakers, and the show begins. And what a show. Gleaming cars just keep on coming. A great night and we saw it twice.

Thanks also to distant relative, Diana, that we went to see near Tampa. She made us very welcome and a lovely meal. A nice peaceful day after the rush of going around.

Also see other pages. A trip to lovely West Wales this year, and one of our favourite days out, a run to France. Also a week in Portugal in March 2006.

Also the day out with photos that we had in London in May 2006.

Added on to the links are two pages on days out that we have had this year, and a new page on a visit to Holland in September 2006. That page will link to several more, with links of albums of photos that I took that week on every page.
