This page is about the travels we have done over the years. If you are looking for visits to the Amazon and the like, you have come to the wrong place. But I hope that it will give you some idea of the travels we have had. I have made up I have made up other pages, and links to photo albums of the trips.
I first got the travel bug when I joined British Rail as a young man. I was allowed five return passes to anywhere in the UK every year, and did a lot of train journeys. When I was about seventeen, I travelled as far north as possible, to Wick near John O'Groats at the top of Scotland. From there I travelled as far south as possible to Lands End in Cornwall. After that I came back to Cardiff. I stayed in cheap B&B's and in the five days I was away, actually spent over 60 hours on trains. A experience, but not one I would recommend.
When we got married due to financial constraints and the fact that foreign travel was not as easy as it is today, we holidayed in the UK. But we would go over most of the UK, and Mary organized trips
away for local people and we had some good times in the holiday camps that were so popular then.
When we got a car, that was it. We have travelled most of the UK. Favourite parts are Scotland, ( five times) Yorkshire, (twice) Cornwall, Devon, and of course Wales. My mother comes from Yorkshire, and I love it there. The welcome is genuine, and when the sun is shining few places can beat it.
We went on a coach holiday to Spain in 1992. This included the then just opened Disneyland Paris. A great time, but the journeys are long. Twelve hours to get to Paris, then after we left, another 20 hours to Callela in Spain were we stayed for a week. After that 28 hours straight through home. Never again.
On the following pages, some trips abroad and day trips in the UK. There will be links to photos taken there as well. Below is a photo taken at Gretna Green
