0 (21)                       Overworked

So for those who do not know me, I am Steve Burns. I am now 58 years old, and was born on the 17th March 1948. St. Patrick's day, making me a Piscean for those that care.

I will skip the very early stuff, it even bores me. But when I was 15 years old, I got apprenticed with good old British Rail, to be trained as a diesel fitter. In those days the big firms would come around the schools looking for likely employees. That goes to show how far back it was.

I stayed with them for nearly six years, learning my craft, and at 21 years old of course I knew it all, and left. I rapidly proved to myself and others that I did not, and a while later got a job as a stop gap with the Cardiff Bus company. This lasted for four years, and in that time, I became one of the first to ever drive the one man vehicles that were to take over the company eventually.

One thing that did happen when I was nearly 21 years old, was the loss of my brother Christopher. He was two years younger than me, and died in a road accident. That affected me deeply, and if I had not had Mary to lean on and give support I do not know what I would have done.

I left the buses forĀ  about four years, and got a job driving wholesale fish for three of them. After that, even Cardiff Bus seemed a good idea. I came back in 1977, and am still here now. I have been a conductor, driver, ticket inspector, radio control inspector, and for the last 15 years or so have been a supervisor at the sign on desk. Most of my work is computer based, and I work as part of a small team that has a great deal to do with drivers wages.

In 2003. I went on the sick in March with a prolapsed disc in the spine. I was off sick for nine months, the longest period I have ever taken off in my life. I had major surgery on my back in the October, and was back at work by the December. These days I can do virtually as much as I could before, although sitting in front of a computer all day does not help.

I have also had a recent period on the sick, and that is the main reason for the rebuild of the site, as I have had rather to much time on my hands. I had an operation for an enlarged Hiatus Hernia and will be off for about six to eight weeks. I thought that it would at least stop me watching day time TV!

One of the things that I did get out of school, and that has stood me in good stead all my life, was a love of photography. They had a good class in school, and I learned to develop and print all my own stuff. I would not do it now, as it is far to expensive, but I have been taking photo's for over 45 years, and still enjoy it.

To see samples of my photography, please check out the photo page links where there will be links to many of my photo albums.

I have taken up a interest in web design ever since I have designed my own. I will not claim to be one of the designers of large sites, but I certainly can make a site for the home user or small business at a very reasonable price. For more details email me here
